Identity management: Automation of the assignment of RHRK account names

In the next digitization step, new RHRK account names will be named and created automatically starting Aug. 1, 2022. The names of existing RHRK accounts will remain unchanged, but these will also benefit from advantages of the digitization step.

You can use the account name to log in to a wide range of systems, e.g. Seafile, Zoom, or Remote Desktop.

 

THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVANTAGES FOR YOU AT A GLANCE:

  • SPEED UP THE ACCOUNT APPLICATION PROCESS.

New RHRK accounts are created in an automated process after a transition period. As a result, access to university IT is available more quickly, typically within three hours of application, unless manual verification is required.

  • LIFETIME UNIQUE ACCOUNT

The new identity management system eliminates the need to reuse account names. This means that an RHRK account can be used as a unique identifier (even for an increasing number of systems outside TUK).

  • NAME CHANGES ARE NOT A PROBLEM

In case of a name change, e.g. due to marriage, employees can easily adjust their e-mail address via the website. The RHRK account can be used as usual.

 

NAMING NEW ACCOUNTS - WHAT CHANGES?

If a new RHRK account is created, the account names will be generated automatically in the future. A newly created account name consists of three blocks, in the scheme: 3 letters, two-digit number, 3 letters.

As before, each personal RHRK account has an associated email address in the form "accountname@rhrk.uni-kl.de".

To ensure that employees are recognizable by their name in internal and external communications, they can assign a speaking e-mail address, a so-called e-mail alias, to their account name via the https://accounts.rhrk.uni-kl.de website. Based on the first and last name, different variants are provided for selection.

APPLY FOR NEW RHRK ACCOUNT

All existing accounts have been transferred to the new system unchanged. You do not need to do anything and enjoy the benefits.

For new employees, RHRK accounts can be applied for as usual via the website https://accounts.rhrk.uni-kl.de. The account application will be digitally forwarded to the designated person for approval. A TAN is already created during the application process, which the new colleague can use to activate the new RHRK account immediately after approval.
